Candle Care & Safety

Candle Care & Safety Guide

Thank you for choosing Candle & Art Boutique.

Proper candle care helps support an even burn, optimal fragrance performance, and longer candle life. Please follow these care and safety recommendations when using your candle.

Candle Curing

Handcrafted candles may benefit from a recommended curing period of approximately 10–14 days after production.

This allows the wax and fragrance to stabilize and can help achieve optimal fragrance performance.

Ready-to-ship candles offered by Candle & Art Boutique have completed the applicable production and preparation process before shipment.

First Burn

The first burn is important for proper candle performance.

Allow the wax to melt across the surface of the candle before extinguishing the flame, while always following the maximum recommended burn time.

Depending on the candle size and design, this may take several hours.

A proper melt pool can help reduce tunneling and promote a more even burn.

Trim the Wick

Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately 1/4 inch (6 mm).

A properly trimmed wick can help:

  • reduce soot;
  • minimize smoke;
  • maintain a steadier flame;
  • support proper candle performance;
  • extend candle life.

Burn Time

For safe candle use:

  • Do not burn a candle for more than 4 hours at a time.
  • Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Candle Safety

Always:

  • place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface;
  • keep candles away from drafts and air currents;
  • keep burning candles out of reach of children and pets;
  • keep candles away from curtains, paper, fabrics, decorations, and other flammable materials;
  • keep the wax pool free from wick trimmings, matches, and other debris;
  • never move or handle a candle while the wax is hot or liquid;
  • never leave a burning candle unattended.

Extinguishing Your Candle

Use a candle snuffer whenever possible.

Extinguish the flame carefully and avoid actions that may cause hot wax to splatter.

Allow the candle and container to cool completely before touching or moving them.

When to Stop Burning

Stop using the candle when approximately 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

Continuing to burn a candle with very little wax remaining may cause the container to become excessively hot.

Storage

Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat.

Proper storage can help preserve:

  • fragrance;
  • wax quality;
  • color;
  • appearance.

Handmade Candle Variations

Our candles are handcrafted and may have slight variations in:

  • wax appearance;
  • color;
  • decorative details;
  • fragrance intensity;
  • handcrafted finish.

Minor variations are natural characteristics of handmade products and are not necessarily considered defects.
